London days / Dias londrinos

Last weekend we went for a couple of days in London to celebrate Ruud’s birthday in grand style: watching a Doctor Who exhibition.

I’ve organized everything, from tickets to where Jasmijn would stay and even a couple of days off for him and there we went: two nights in a boat, as it’s always his dreams. We’ve used Stena Line, a Swedish company with many routes around the North and Baltic Seas.

They were really good London days. Too bad it was only for a couple of days, but even then it was pretty nice. We’ve finally met Jayne Nelson, a British journalist that writes for SFX, Total Film and many other magazines. Apart from knowing much of her writings in SFX, we’ve been visiting her weblog for a few years now, and after posting some comments and reactions, and exchanging e-mails, a meeting seemed unavoidable. So when we mentioned that we were visiting London, she immediatly suggested meeting for a meal or something. So we met, and it just clicked. She is a very friendly, open person with a great sense of humour. We had a very nice meal, got to know each other a bit better, and since neither of us wanted to say goodbye after dinner, we slowly strolled through London towards Waterloo station, where Jayne had to take her train. Having said our goodbyes and departing our ways, Ruud and I left the station with the feeling that we just made a new friend…

And we’ve walked miles and miles along the Thames and around town, just visiting bookshops(!), music stores and experiencing the Londonian atmosphere. Great!

And last but not least: we’ve tried to visit the Natural History Museum, but it was so full we’ve left after 10 or 15 minutes inside! We haven’t forgotten about summer vacation, but probably underestimated the museum’s appeal…

Even though it was a very short trip, it was wonderful to just go there again!

Lief, it was one of the best birthdays ever!
I came back with wonderfull memories. Strolling along the Thames holding hands while looking at people. You hugging a coffeemug at Starbucks so I could visit Forbidden Planet (again!). Me with a grin as wide as most of the real children had at the Who-exhibition. Us meeting Jayne…
And I even found that very hard to find, rare Sailor-athology CD I was looking for!
    All because of you.
    Thank you…..
